Simple Content Templates for Blog Posts & Pages

This plugin makes it simple to create content templates for your posts and pages. When creating a new post or page use one of your content templates as the starting point. Simple Content Templates allows you to define a title, post body, and even an excerpt.

How Simple Content Templates Works

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. You should have a new menu item in your admin dashboard “Content Templates”
  3. Use the “Add a Template” button to create a template. Add the title and content you want to be able to start with when creating blog posts or pages. Go ahead and publish the template.
  4. When creating a new post or page, in the sidebar you should see the option to “Load a Content Template.” Select the template you want to use and click the “Load Template” button.
  5. After the page refreshes, edit the post or page however you want and publish it like normal.
  6. …next time you need to write a similar post or create a similar page, do it all over again!

Does Simple Content Templates support multiple templates?

As of version 2.0, yes! You can add as many content templates as you would like to! Simply select the one you want to use from the sidebar in the post edit page and click “Load Template.”

Does Simple Content Templates work with pages or is it just posts?

While the primary use case is for people creating lots of blog posts with similar content, there is a setting to toggle on the Simple Content Template functionality for pages as well.

Can it work with custom post types?

Template is Public

A template has the purpose to serve as a template and not as a public pattern. Especially with large similarly structured data one wants to make use of the internal. But if the whole thing is also public, that has too many disadvantages. Unfortunately, the plugin missed its target. The integration into the theme is nice, but not more. Who has no problem that the template is public, which is hereby helped, but not the rest.

Works well, plugin creator is quick to address any issues

I began using this plugin as a replacement for an older, similar plugin that hadn't been updated in forever, and while there have been a couple of issues, the plugin creator is pretty impressive with his response time, and those issues remain resolved. They've also made some changes with the latest updates that seem to have fixed two things in the plugin that didn't take away from the functionality and usefulness but proved to be very irritating. They're definitely listening to their customers, even those of us who don't have a need for the premium version. That alone is worth 5 stars.

Worked, but updates ruin all [fixed]

It worked fine (but not perfect — accepting the template reloads the editor and creates totally new post; if you enter the title before you accept it...you'll have to do it againg). But then... [outdated] 1. Update to 2.1 deleted all templates without warning. 2. Update to 2.1.1 made the site crash with php 500 error. I don't recommend to use it. [/outdated] Update — fixed fast, works well. Thanks to the developer.

Newest Update fixed everything

Edit (4/10/17) Based on the company's responsiveness, I am editing my previous review. The company was able to fix the code and push out an update within a day of identifying the problem. This is a very handy tool that allows you to create your own post and page templates, with a dropdown menu to select which one you want to use upon creating a new page or post. I would like to see a way to not have the category default to "Uncategorized". Previous Review Previous update from a few weeks ago deleted my templates and took away some of the functionality. The most recent template from this weekend caused a fatal error and my site can no longer be accessed. This is pretty unacceptable. I'm going to follow a previous comment and see if I can restore my site. Unbelievable!

  1. Upload the directory “simple-post-template” to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  3. Find “Content Templates” in menu on left.
  4. Add as many templates as you wish.
  5. Configure settings and select a default template for auto-fill, if desired.
