Search Everything

Sovrn

Search Everything improves WordPress default search functionality without modifying any of the template pages. You can configure it to search pages, excerpts, attachments, drafts, comments, tags and custom fields (metadata) and you can specify your own search highlight style. It also offers the ability to exclude specific pages and posts. It does not search password-protected content. Simply install, configure… and search.

Search Everything plugin now includes a writing helper called Research Everything that lets you search for your posts and link to them while writing. You can also enable Power Search to research posts from the wider web (for WP3.7 and above).

Better WordPress search in three steps

It doesn’t search in my PDF/Word/Excel attachments

We know, this is not a bug. It’s not that easy to search through binary files.
Anyway, if there’s a will, there’s a way. Just ask us for a workaround and we’ll gladly help.

It doesn’t work

Read the installation guide.

It *still* doesn’t work

Dead plugin, makes attempting to search return a critical error

By Erik Harris (eharris) on February 24, 2023

As others have noted, this plugin has been abandoned, and has broken sites' search functions for quite some time. Don't install this, and if you have it installed, delete it.

Abandoned and No longer works

By delphineous on May 19, 2021

I am updating my rating for this plug-in. The Search Everything plug-in used to work great and allow my Easy Digital Downloads content to be fully searchable. It appears that the functions which this tool uses have been deprecated since it stopped working with a recent WordPress update. Reinstalling doesn't fix the issue. This plug-in has been abandoned and does not work on modern WordPress installations.

Breaks WooCommerce order search

By jvwx (enfueggo) on March 4, 2021

When the plugin is active, a backend search on the Orders page of WooCommerce always loads zero results. It's just a custom post type so I'm not sure what the issue is but be aware if you use Woo. /wp-admin/edit.php?s=MySearchPhrase&post_status=all&post_type=shop_order

abandoned / fatal errors

By Chad Reitsma (chadreitsma) on January 15, 2020

Throws a fatal error when adding a new post with WP 5.3. We commented out the action on line:935 - which might break some functionality of the plugin, but at least we can add blog posts.

Two Words: Break Everything

By Paul Scollon (scollonp) on October 12, 2018

This plugin is completely outdated and breaks several other plugins, including Advanced Custom Fields. It should be removed from the directory. DO NOT USE.

no more support - plugin has been abandoned.

By Svensonsan (svensonsan) on August 13, 2018

As the developer mentioned in a pinned feedback in the support section: This plugin receives no more support or development.

Conflicts with Database

By Aldoseri on June 28, 2018

While it's a nice plugin, it also create a conflict in the database. You'll start seeing DB error in other plugins. This is an old plugin and should be updated. at its current state it's harmful to your wordpress installation

Breaks WooCommerce "Filter Products" function

By raywaldo on April 14, 2018

When this plugin is active, I am unable to filter the products in my WooCommerce site. It just returns "no products found." Not sure if it did the intentional searches correctly or not. I had to delete it.

used to work, but not maintained??

By jwarhus on March 12, 2018

This plug-in used to work properly, but now it doesn't return a proper response for an empty search box. Just get an empty page with now results, nor error message. Apparently this problem has been around for nearly a year (see user forum topic: No-results) and the developer has not solved the problem.
